Best for
Lightweight Apparel, Activewear / Stretch

Three-needle flatbed coverstitch for hem finishing on t-shirts, leggings, activewear, and the rest of the apparel knitwear that needs both a decorative top stitch and a stretch-tolerant looper underneath.

Who runs this

Apparel manufacturers running knit construction — t-shirt sleeve and bottom hems, performance leggings, athletic wear, polo bottoms. Activewear contract shops where the spec sheet calls for a coverstitch and the run sizes mean it has to clear 5,000+ SPM without breaking thread.

Wrong machine for woven hems (use a single-needle lockstitch or the SW-718 blindstitch). Right machine when the fabric stretches and a lockstitch would crack on first wash.

Why coverstitch over a topstitch lockstitch

  1. Stretch tolerance. The looper underneath forms an interlocked chain, not a fixed lock. When the fabric stretches, the chain stretches with it. Lockstitch on a t-shirt hem cracks the first time the shirt comes out of the wash.
  2. Two visible top rows in one pass. Three needles, two parallel topstitch rows on the face, looper under. The standard hem look on every athletic-apparel brand. Configurable to 2-needle / 4-thread or 3-needle / 5-thread depending on spec.
  3. Direct drive, 5,500 SPM, auto-oil. Continuous production runs without operator stops to oil. Direct drive holds torque at low speeds for the corner pivots; auto-lubrication keeps the head running through long shifts.

Application examples

T-shirt hems

Sleeve and bottom hems on cotton-spandex jersey. Three-needle configuration, 4-thread setup, 5,000 SPM. Standard apparel-line configuration.

Athletic leggings

Waistband and ankle hems on technical performance fabric. The looper-under construction handles the high-stretch nylon-spandex blend without thread breakage during fitting.

Polo bottom hem

Pique knit polo with a 1-inch finished hem. Two-needle / 4-thread configuration produces a clean inside finish without bulk on the fold.

What ships with it

Machine assembled with direct-drive electronic motor, industrial table, stand, and wheels. Auto-lubrication system. Configurable for 2-needle (4-thread) or 3-needle (5-thread) operation.
