The SPEEDWAY® SW 2290S is a fully electronic zig-zag machine, and the difference from a conventional zig-zag is what it will actually sew. Where a mechanical machine gives you one zig-zag and maybe a three-step, this one carries 16 built-in stitch patterns — straight stitch, standard zig-zag, two-step and three-step zig-zag, four left scallops, four right scallops, and blind stitch in both standard and L-type — all selected from a multifunction color LCD touch screen. Pattern parameters are typed straight into the screen, and an internal zig-zag pattern input function lets the operator build stitch sequences the factory presets do not cover.

Everything else is electronic too: automatic thread trimmer, automatic reverse, automatic presser foot lifter, and automatic needle positioning, driven by an AC servo direct drive motor. It reaches 5,000 rpm and swings up to 10 mm on three-step patterns. The mini-oil lubrication system feeds only the needle bar and hook, so the fabric stays clean — which is the whole point on lingerie, lace, and light-colored garments where an oil mark scraps the piece.
